Project Focus: PLTU Muara Karang & Tanjung Priok (Reclamation Impact)
Clients: PT PLN (Persero), PT PJB, & TEPSCO
The Challenge
The rapid reclamation in North Jakarta (Pantura) threatened to alter the hydrodynamic patterns of the Java Sea. For PLTU Muara Karang and Tanjung Priok, the risk was thermal recirculation: where hot discharge water is sucked back into the cold-water intake, drastically reducing plant efficiency and risking turbine trips.
Our Action
Using our proprietary CFDSOF engine, CCIT Group developed a large-scale coastal model. We simulated multiple environmental scenarios, including:
- Tidal cycles (high vs. low tide) and seasonal current variations.
- Existing vs. Post-Reclamation bathymetry changes.
- Sedimentation transport analysis to predict dredging requirements.
The Result
We identified specific “hotspots” created by the new reclamation geometry. Our study provided the engineering basis for a Deflector Wall design, ensuring that the $3^{\circ}\text{C}$ temperature rise limit at the intake was maintained, securing the operational continuity of Jakarta’s most critical power hub.
