Project Focus: Coal Wide Range Study (Units 1-7)

Client: PT PLN Enjiniring – PLTU Suralaya

The Challenge

As fuel markets shifted, PLTU Suralaya needed to burn a wider variety of coal ranks (Low to High calorie) without damaging the legacy boiler infrastructure or spiking $NO_x$ emissions.

Our Action

We conducted a comprehensive “Boiler Capability” study using CFD. We modeled the fireball center, furnace exit gas temperature (FEGT), and slagging potential for five different coal blends.

  • Flame Characteristics: Analyzed the “Dual Fuel” and multi-rank coal flame stability.
  • Emissions: Predicted $SO_x$ and $NO_x$ profiles for each fuel blend.

The Result

CCIT provided a “Fuel Operational Map,” giving the plant engineers the precise damper settings and mill configurations required for each coal type. This allowed the plant to maintain a high Capacity Factor while utilizing more cost-effective fuel sources.
